The most articulate term I’ve learned for the art of experiencing music is used by Pauline Oliveros: Deep Listening. It’s difficult to do at most music venues. Fortunately the alternatives to clubs, bars, and meat markets abound, and in a burg like Boston there’s plenty long beards looking for aural enlightenment. Third Life Studio has been hosting Opensound for a few years now – as a shared space, it’s impersonal but not distracting. You go, you sit, you Listen. You sound.
